1. IRobot Roomba i3+ EVO

The i3+ EVO and its i3 EVO sibling, the i3 EVO are both identical robots that differ only in that the i3+ comes with self-emptying features. This makes the i3+ a good choice for people who want an entirely automated, hands-free cleaning experience, but don't mind manually emptying their robot's dustbin when it is full.

Both robots are adept at picking up surface debris off carpets and hard floors, and they're excellent in moving around furniture and other obstacles. iAdapt navigation software creates a smart maps of your home that help the i3+ navigate and clean efficiently. However unlike the i7+ or other top rated robots we test the i3+ does not have obstacle-avoidance capabilities which means it can be stuck on things like socks or power cords and it may have trouble navigating across surface transitions like hardwood to rug.

iRobot recommends you clear out areas that the i3+ EVO will vacuum prior to when you use it, which includes clearing out any toys or clutter it may encounter. It's also a good idea to keep the dust bin and filter clean so that they do not become blocked by dirt. When the i3+'s internal bin is full or its battery is depleted it goes back to its docking station and automatically empties its dirt into the station's external dustbin and then resumes cleaning where it began. The battery's lifespan is around an hour and a half of continuous use. It takes 3 hours to fully charge.

2. IRobot Roomba i7+

The iRobot Roomba i7+ is the most powerful model of the flagship line from iRobot and has the most up-to-date features. It has self-charging and self-navigating. But the most significant feature is its self-emptying bin. This eliminates the need for regular maintenance.

The Roomba i7+ can remember up to 10 floor plans and their names thanks to Imprint Smart Mapping, an application that lets it identify rooms to clean them more efficiently. It also integrates with the iRobot Home app to let you schedule cleaning tasks and control your robot with voice or via the app.

The i7+ is quicker and more agile in our tests than the eufy RoboVac G30. It also cleaned large pet hair pieces from all surfaces including carpeting. The biggest advantage over the Eufy is the self-emptying bin that eliminates major sources of maintenance and reduces the cost of maintenance.

We were also amazed by the i7+'s integration with Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant AI services which we used to instruct the robot to start, stop or pause its cleaning sessions, move itself around the room and vacuum a specific space. The process of connecting the i7+ to these services was simple and straightforward using the iRobot Home app. Once connected, to voice commands to the i7+, such as "Hey Alexa vacuum the master bedroom." The iRobot Home app also provides options to manage the i7+'s preferences and monitoring its performance.

3. Dyson Cyclone V10

This tiny Dyson model is a sports car in a sea of vacuums with cords that feel like minivans and buses. It's powerful enough to replace a stand-up vacuum in most homes, but also small enough to fit on the bookcase or coffee table.

The biggest issue with the V10 is its limited run time. As CR's tests show, its marketing claims of up to 60 minutes are misleading. This is a typical battery-powered cordless vacuum's running time. This is still enough to clean most of an average-sized house however, it's not enough to get every single spot (though the second time around usually will suffice). That's not to say this model doesn't have its benefits: It's lighter and agile than older cordless Dysons, and its vacuuming performance is noticeably better on carpets with low pile.

4. iRobot Roomba 694"

The 694 is a basic robotic vacuum that's a great option for those who don't have lots of money to spend on a robot. It's capable of sucking up all kinds of debris in our tests, and frequently goes over the same areas multiple times to give a thorough clean. Its flat front makes it possible to reach corners and edges of walls.

Its navigation system is smart and uses iAdapt to avoid obstacles and navigate around your home, but it's not equipped with the ability to map that comes with more sophisticated models such as our top selections and the i3+ EVO and j7+ series. As a result, it is sometimes stuck on things like phone cords or furniture that isn't in good condition, and frequently runs out of battery power before making it back to its original location.

The Xiaomi Mi robot vacuum is superior to the Roomba 694 in most respects, as it has fewer components that need regular cleaning and is equipped with an allergen-trapping HEPA filter, incurs lower recurring costs, comes with more advanced automation capabilities and is more efficient in maneuvering itself. It also has a larger dustbin and charges faster.

The RoboVac X8 is a slick RoboVac X8 is superior to the Roomba 694 for most reasons, since it has a better battery life, has the ability to alter its suction power mode manually and has physical boundary strips, and can be operated by your phone's voice assistant. It also feels more sturdy, has a more powerful motor, and performs notably better on floors that are bare and carpets with low pile, while offering a wider range of automation features.

5. Samsung Jet Bot AI+

Samsung is a household name in home electronics. It's not surprising that they are also among the top producers of robot vacuums and mop. Jet Bot AI+ has an advanced onboard technology that allows for navigation and obstacle avoidance.

The app offers a wide range of options to customize your robotic cleaner. These include mopping levels, virtual barriers and behavior customizations docking frequency settings, and many more. The app is simple to use and understand similar to other Samsung devices.

In our tests, the Jet Bot AI+ performed well on hard floors, and cleaned up 86 percent of dog hair (on carpet). It was not as successful in avoiding taller items such as socks or cords. This was disappointing. It's also a bit more expensive than the other models we tried which could be a deterrent for certain shoppers.

The app lets you access the camera onboard of the smart vacuum. You can also set up live streaming from the robot's area of cleaning. This feature lets you to monitor your children or pets while you're away. The filter and the dustbin can be cleaned for the quick and easy cleaning. The Jet Bot AI+ also comes with a clean station that's self-emptying to keep the robot's dustbin clean and optimizes suction power for each cleaning run.

6. Black & Decker Robot Vacuum

Black and Decker robots have been designed specifically for hard flooring. They have a wider cleaning path as well as a large dustbin that holds twice as much debris than competitors to keep the cleaning area free of debris for the longest period of time. In addition, they have two side sweepers that clean up around edges and in corners. The POWERSERIES model comes with AutoSense that automatically adjusts the power level depending on whether it's cleaning up surface dirt or embedded dirt. The vacuum also comes with an app that allows you to view an interactive map, control functions, and schedules. Plus, you can monitor the battery's status and then return it to its dock to charge by pressing one button. The app also allows you to customize the LED lights on the top of the vacuum with different colors, so that you can clearly see the areas where it's focused or where it's got stuck.

The app also makes it easy to manually steer the robot in the event of need. For instance, my living room rug has a darkly-colored border that has a tendency to trip up some of the other robots I've tried. The HRV 425BL however was able to continue to move across the border without ever registering the cliff. The ability to program a cleaning schedule for each week is a time-saving benefit.
